girls playing the violin

Form One Weekly News 30th October 2023

3rd November 23

Welcome back everyone! We couldn’t wait to get back to work after the lovely two-week autumn break. In Mathematics, we were introduced to some super new Maths language; part and whole. We enjoyed playing with equpiment, seperating groups of objects into parts and using the new vocabularly to help us explain what we had done.

In English, we loved reading our Holiday Diaries and finding out what we had all been up to. So many lovely experiences.

In Mathematics on Tuesday, we were introduced to even more new Maths vocabulary; Cherry Model! We loved using our own cherry models to split whole amounts into different parts.

We enjoyed a spooky Halloween Yoga with Jamie; Ruby Broom.

In French, we were so clever with our French numbers. We recalled how to count up to twelve and played a fun matching number game.

At the end of the day we received a challenge! Solve eight part-whole model problems and we could decorate a Halloween cake. We managed to solve all of the problems using a variety of different strategies, including using our fingers, recalling number facts and counting on. Well done, girls!

In Art, we remembered lots of facts about the beautiful celebration, Diwali and enjoyed painting our little clay divas using metallic paints. We also used another type of dough; Air Dough to make a mendhi hand tricket pot.

On Thursday we learned about Guy Fawkes and why we have a bonfire and fireworks on the 5th November.  Mrs Weir was very impressed at how we could recall and order the story and how long we could concentrate for to write captions for the pictures in our topic books.

We also learned about speech bubbles in our English lesson.  We all had a try at writing our own speech bubbles, pretending that we were a character from the story.
