Form One Weekly News 25th September 2023

29th September 23

In Mathematics, we have been remembering how to count backwards from a given number. We enjoyed recalling lots of counting back rhymes, including 5 Cheeky Monkeys jumping on the bed and acting them out. We then practised counting backwards, while clapping and waving and then moved onto number lines. We are really working hard to write the numerals the correct way round.

In PSHE, we discussed belonging. We chatted about belonging to our families, class and social groups. We enjoyed sharing which clubs we belong to with Jigsaw Jack.

In Science, we loved finding out more about our bodies. We named all of our external body parts and then moved onto our skeletons, muscles and major organs. We really enjoyed looking at a model, feeling the different body parts and learning more about their functions. Phew! What a busy afternoon working at scientists.

In Form Time, we have been busy making rockets to use in a super counting back rhyme ‘Mary, Mary, Sitting in her Spaceship’. Can you remember the rhyme at home?

In Computing, we thoroughly enjoyed learning how to make a simple book on the iPad using Purple Mash ‘Create-A-Story’. We took photographs of each other and typed sentences about our friends.

We had great fun in our History lesson looking at houses from the past and comparing them on the inside and the outside to houses that we live in.  The girls were shocked to hear that houses used to be made from mud and animal excrement!

We had fun using Purple Mash on the iPads to draw some old houses and our own houses too! Then we used the construction materials to create a huge house on the classroom floor! This caused much debate over how the walls and floors should be constructed and allowed the girls to negotiate and work as a team to achieve their end goal.

Have a lovely weekend!
