Reception News 30th June

30th June 23

We started the week with an exciting visit to the National Gallery in London. We travelled into London on a coach with Form I and Form II. We had a special room where we could leave our lunches before we set of to explore the gallery. We had a few paintings that we were searching for. The first one was a panting of a horse called Whistlejacket by an artist called George Stubbs. We were very excited when we spotted it and settled down to try to reproduce our own copy of the horse. Next we went to a gallery full of paintings by an artist called Seurat. We learnt that he explored a technique called pointillism where he used lots of dots to create his paintings. After that we looked at a famous painting of some sunflowers by Van Gogh. We didn’t think the colours of the sunflowers were bright enough!

We then met a guide called Belle who took us to see a picture that we have learnt about in school called Surprised! by Henri Rousseau. We discussed the different shades of colours, weather and feelings within the picture. She also taught us about how a painting can tell a story even though there are no words to read or voices to hear. We looked at a very old painting all about a lady called Psyche, a man called Cupid and his Mother Venus. The story was very similar to the stories of Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. Mrs Johnstone was so proud of us all and loved that we received so many compliments from members of the public.
