We have had a very busy week in Nursery learning all about ‘Safety in the Sun’, we enjoyed another swimming lesson in our school pool and went on another outing but this time on a coach.
We started our morning learning to keep ourselves safe in the sun. We remembered that in the summer we need to remember to put sun cream on to protect our skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays. We learnt that there are different factors of sun cream for different colour skin types and for use in different temperatures. Some of us recognised factor 30 on Mrs Radgman’s sun cream and factor 50 on Jaime’s. We also found out that we could use sunblock to keep all the sun’s UV rays away from our skin. We knew that it was also important to wear sun glasses to protect our eyes and to never look directly at the sun. We also thought it was good to put a hat on to keep our heads cool and to spend time in the shade. We thought about drinking lots of water to hydrate ourselves and to wear appropriate clothing. We then prepared two dolls to go out to play in the sunshine. Isla and Millie carefully applied sun cream, popped on their hats and then took them for a play in the paddling pool outside. We then listening to ‘Slip, Slop, Slap’, a song all about putting on your sun cream.
Later that morning some of us enjoyed another lesson in the school pool. We independently got ourselves undressed and put on our swimming costumes, all before the Mummies and Daddies came to help. We then enjoyed learning how to float on our fronts and backs, how to put our faces into the water and blow bubbles to flip over a pool toy, and then really enjoyed jumping in as far as we could to splash our parents and Mrs Radgman. What fun we had.
On Tuesday we all brought our own bottles of sun cream to school and after recalling all the information that we had learnt about sun safety, we independently applied our sun cream to make sure that we were safe in the sun during our play. Everyone was very sensible and used the roll-ons, sprays and lotions to apply the different makes of sun cream. Great work Nursery.
We then enjoyed some lovely indoor and outdoor Chil with the lovely friends that we have made this year.
We were so excited on Thursday morning for our Nursery outing on a coach to Mill Green Museum at Hatfield. Once we were all ready we boarded the coach and off we set. On the way we passed by some of our houses, we saw cows and horses in the field and the river Lea. We sang songs on the way and talked all about the things that we were going to do at the Mill. When we arrived we had snack sitting in the shade of a tree and we met Melissa who had organised our day. First we went to listen to the story ‘Little Red Hen’ and we were shocked at how unkind Hen’s friends were not helping her to grow the wheat. After the story we split into two groups and whilst one group went to meet Simon the miller and learn all about how the grain from the wheat is turned into flour, the other group went to make bread rolls with the baker Freddie. In the bakery we mixed the ingredients to make the dough, and learnt that the dough had to prove. We then made the dough into two balls and made a snowman, then put our pointy finger through both balls to make a little loaf. In the mill we used a mini mill stone to grind the grain and we watched the miller open the gates to let the water flow through and turn the large millstones. We then saw the soft flour flowing down into the flour bags. Our busy day continued with planting cress seeds and a play with grain and cogs and dressing up in miller’s clothes. At the end of the morning we had a lovely picnic under a shady tree before the coach arrived and brought us back to school. Our teachers were super proud of the way we behaved, how polite we were and how engaged we were during the whole outing.
