KS2

A Confident Step into Key Stage 2

At St Hilda’s Harpenden, Key Stage 2 represents a significant and exciting stage in each girl’s educational journey. As pupils progress into Form III and beyond, they are encouraged to become more independent learners, taking increasing responsibility for their work and personal organisation. This stage builds confidence and self-belief, ensuring that every girl feels supported while also being challenged to achieve her very best. The transition into KS2 is carefully managed, allowing pupils to adapt smoothly to new expectations and opportunities.

A Broad and Ambitious Curriculum

The Key Stage 2 curriculum is both broad and ambitious, designed to inspire curiosity and a genuine love of learning. Core subjects such as English and Mathematics remain central, with a strong focus on developing advanced literacy, numeracy and critical thinking skills. In addition, pupils engage in a rich and varied programme including Science, History, Geography, Religious Studies and Computing. Lessons are thoughtfully structured to encourage enquiry, discussion and deeper understanding, enabling girls to make meaningful connections across subjects.

Personal Development and Leadership

Personal growth is a key focus throughout Key Stage 2. Girls are encouraged to develop resilience, independence and strong interpersonal skills. There are opportunities to take on roles of responsibility within the school community, fostering leadership and teamwork. Through pastoral care and wellbeing initiatives, pupils are supported in building confidence, managing challenges and developing a positive sense of self.

Preparation for the Future

By the time pupils reach Form VI, they are well prepared for the next stage of their education. They leave Key Stage 2 as confident, articulate and well-rounded individuals, equipped with strong academic foundations and a readiness to embrace the opportunities and challenges of senior school life. Alongside their academic achievements, they have developed a genuine curiosity for learning, the ability to think independently, and the resilience to approach new situations with confidence. Their experiences have nurtured strong communication and collaboration skills, enabling them to contribute thoughtfully within a community while also taking ownership of their own progress.

As they move forward, they carry with them not only knowledge, but also the character, adaptability and enthusiasm needed to thrive in a dynamic and ever-changing world.
