Form One Website News Autumn 1 2026

Welcome to our first Form One Website News!

We were so excited to meet Mrs Bishop and spend time in our new classroom. We worked with our friends solving puzzles and chatting about our amazing summer holiday adventures.

We enjoyed sharing photographs from our summer holidays in our Summer Selfies.

We loved listening to the story ‘Sticks’ by Diane Alber. We discussed how stick changed when his ice lolly melted in the hot sun, and he didn’t know what to do and where he belonged. We chatted about how we are now Form One girls, and we will be learning lots of new and exciting things together. We designed our own lollies, adding funny faces.

In History, we learned what history is and discovered it is learning about the past! We discovered that some families used to have a crest, including the royal family. We designed our own family crests. We included our family, our favourite thing, our favourite hobby and the value we feel is most important to us.

We went on to thinking about our own history, including sharing our beautiful baby photos, recalling our first memories, and ordering how we move through life from babies to elderly people. We enjoyed sharing who is in our family and made our own family tree.

We discussed how lots of people have a home, and how these homes can be very different in the past and in different parts of the world. We learnt about yurts, igloos, skyscrapers, caves, houses on stilts above the water and many more. We designed a new home we would like to live in.  We then looked at houses through the decades and tried to spot things that have changed from the 1940s homes to the present day.

In PSHCE, in myHappymind, we have been learning about our brain, and how it helps us in everything we do. We even had a go at drawing our brains in our new journals, and thinking of something we found hard and worked hard to improve.

In French, we have loved learning greetings, new vocabulary for food and drink and talking about how we are feeling with Madame Lawrenson.

In Maths, we have been busy learning more about number. We have been counting, focusing on one more and one less, using the tens frames to match amounts and writing number digits and number words. We loved showing our answers using number fans.

We learnt two new symbols in Maths; greater than and less than. We practised drawing the symbols and used them to compare numbers. Can you remember how to write them?

We then moved on to adding numbers and even spotting missing numbers e.g. __+4 = 10.  Next half-term we will be looking at subtracting.

We have loved sharing ‘Things we don’t know about you’ facts in our Show and Tell presentations. We have learnt so many new things about each other, including adventurous activities such as zip lining and canyoning, our love of visiting art galleries, dance, collecting pottery, swimming, skiing and much more!

In Computing, we have been using the program ‘Purple Mash’. We enjoyed making a simple book all about ourselves, including word processing about ourselves and drawing pictures. We even used the camera on the iPads to take photographs of our friends.

In Science, we have been learning about ourselves. We have been finding out what are facial features are for, including our eye lashes and nostrils! We labelled our faces carefully by drawing lines with rulers and adding scientific labels.

We went on to learn about our senses. We found out which body part is used for each sense, and we took part in little experiments to test each sense. These included listening to different sounds, smelling herbs and spices and working out what they were, using signs to help direct us around the field and using a feely bag and guessing what everything was. We decided we have amazing senses!

We looked at the features on the outside of our bodies, naming body parts and finding out more about them. We also learnt about our skeletons, finding out so many fascinating facts about ourselves.

In preparation for our zoo trip, we learned about the different types of vertebrates and what features they had.  We then tried to group animals.  During our trip to the zoo, we were able to impress zoo-keeper Becky with our new knowledge.

In Art, we learnt about the primary colours; red, blue and yellow and how we can mix them together to make the secondary colours; orange, purple and green. We loved exploring the colours and painting birds with all of the different combinations.

We used our colour mixing skills to paint stunning lions from the super Rachel Bright stories, ‘The Lion Inside’ and Kevin the Kaola from ‘The Kaola who Could’. We then used our colour mixing skills for paint our first face portrait, mixing our own colours for our skin, eyes and hair. We think we look great!

We managed to fill our class marble jar just before the holidays and chose to spend an afternoon in our pyjamas with our favourite teddies.  It was the perfect end to a busy half-term!
