We have had a fantastic start to Form III! The girls have settled quickly into the daily routines and are rising to the challenge of the expectations of a new year group. We have a ‘marble jar’ as a reward system where points are added when something brilliant happens! This could be anything from one of the girls achieving a personal goal, creating a fantastic piece of work or someone being kind, thoughtful or showing good manners. This is a whole class reward system and the girls are aware that they are working collaboratively to reach the target displayed. It is creating a great team spirit!
In English the girls have been enjoying learning about folk tales from other cultures in our English lessons. They have compared and contrasted stories, learned about morals from each story, created some of their own morals and re-enacted the stories in groups and performed these to their peers! What a busy half term!
In Maths we have been looking at Place Value. The girls have enjoyed a mixture of active problem solving, conceptual breakdown and practical real-world applications. They have been focusing on the mathematical principles of Place Value and gaining a true understanding of the fundamentals of number.
In Humanities we started our work on the Stone Age. The girls were introduced to the topic in the classroom and learned about the time periods, weapons they used, hunting and how life evolved through their discoveries. Later on in the term we were visited by Historic Workshops who brought the Stone Age to life in the classroom and hall of St. Hilda’s School, Harpenden! We had an exciting day handling and investigating artefacts and bones from the period, crafting our own tools and weapons as the they would have been created, had some great fun using bows and arrows in the hall practising our archery skills and also creating cave painting pictures using materials similar to those used in the Stone Age!
