Sports News

As we near the end of the first half of term, we can reflect on some great achievements over the last two weeks.  Our girls have been busy taking part in a range of sporting opportunities, including swim galas, netball and football matches, cross-country and ski championships.

On 7th October our Form Vs played 5 aside football against Berkhamsted girls on their 3G astro.  It was our first time to Berkhamsted, and we were given a very warm reception. Our girls played in 4 different teams and everyone enjoyed the experience, playing in a friendly tournament, with spectators cheering them on and teas afterwards.

The following day our Form VI netball teams played St Nicholas School at Home.  Both teams fared well, with our A team winning 10-0.  Our B team put up a strong contest against a mixed side of boys and girls.

On Thursday, 24 girls travelled to Abbot’s Hill for a friendly swim gala.  Our girls were excited and enjoyed the atmosphere inside the pool, with spectators there to watch as well.  There were some very close races and impressive performances from individuals, as well as great team spirit in the relays.

On Friday, our ISA cross-country runners travelled once again to Abbot’s Hill for their annual race.  The U9 team showed great resilience and endurance, with all girls finishing in the top 25.  Lizzie deserves a special mention finishing 6th overall (out of 100 runners) and has qualified for the Nationals next term.

On Saturday our ISA swim squad travelled to Barnet Copthall Leisure centre, where other Prep schools from London North gathered for the annual ISA Swim Championships.  Our girls all did their best, with several finishing in the top 5 out of 16 other competitors in their event.  Sophia M got a bronze medal in the Year 5 50m backstroke and Imogen received Gold for an outstanding swim in the 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly; she goes on to the Nationals at the London Olympic pool at the end of November.

Also on Saturday our Ski team were in action at Norwich competing against the top skiers in the country in the ESSKIA dry slope championships.  It was a great achievement by Reva, Siena and Maisie to have qualified for the Nationals, and one that they will always remember.

This week our U10s were in action again at STAHS playing 5 aside netball.  This fixture is always tightly contested, and all 4 teams showed skill, determination and team spirit.  Our A team played a strong defensive game and also managed to score 2 goals, winning 2-1.  Our B team narrowly lost 3-4.  Our Cs and Ds should also be proud of their efforts on court.  The experience of working hard as a team, encouraging each other, representing the School and being a team player are some of the most important elements of team sport.

Well done to all our girls for showing great enthusiasm, commitment and eagerness to take part in so many different sports.  Half-term will be a time for everyone to rest and recuperate in preparation for another busy half term.
