Reception News 27th May

27th May 22

We have had a Jubilee filled week this week! We started the week with a trip on our magic carpet. We flew to London and paid the Queen a visit at Buckingham Palace.  We asked her if there was anything that she would like us to help her with in the preparations for the Jubilee.  She said that it would be very helpful for us to collect any rubbish that was lying around but also she wanted everyone and everything to be able to join in the celebrations.  She suggested that we make mini palaces for all the minibeasts and bugs to be able to celebrate in.  We said our goodbyes and flew back to school.  We got to work straight away with the sweeping brushes and collected any rubbish to put in the bins.  Some of us pretended to be guards and soldiers patrolling the grounds.  Some of us designed bug palaces and we even built some palaces in the sandpit for the toy dinosaurs!

In Maths we have been working on our number bonds to 10 and have been using flags and crowns to help us record our answers. We had a Jubilee counting sheet to do, that had a mixture of royal objects hidden on it.  It was really tricky to spot everything. We also helped the Form VI girls with their Maths as they came to ask us some questions about a charity event that they will be organising after half term.

In Literacy we wrote letters to the Queen wishing her a Happy Birthday and we designed a new stamp to be used on all the Royal Mail!

We have been keeping an eye on our planting experiments everyday.  Our carrots have been thrown away as they didn’t grow; the beans in the greenhouses have started to grow roots and some have sprouted stems and leaves; the spring onions have started to grow new shoots; there is no sign of growth from the watermelon seeds yet and we also planted some squashed blueberries!

We have made been very creative this week. We have designed and made crowns. Painted portraits of the Queen. We have even made flags and cut out and stuck together some pictures of the Grenadier Guards.

We have been practising singing our Platinum Jubilee song, the National Anthem and Gary Barlow’s song ‘Sing’ all week in readiness for our Jubilee celebrations .  Friday was a fabulous day we had great fun celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
