Form I Weekly News 6th December

10th December 21

We were so excited to be wearing our Christmas jumpers on our last week of the term!

We were productive straight away in our Busy Books, writing about our super outfits and drawing ourselves.

In English, we loved hearing about a very grumpy Innkeeper in the story Jesus’ Christmas Party and made a simple Nativity scene.

In Mathematics, we recalled our number bonds finding matching friends with parts of crackers, before pulling real crackers.

In PSHCE, we thought about the last time we felt embarrassed. Mrs Bishop and Mrs Matthews could think of lots of time they felt embarrassed but we found it harder to recall this emotion! We then thought about Christmas and how we can become little Elves of kindness helping out at home. We thought of lots of different ways, including helping Mum with jobs, decorating the Christmas tree, baking goodies and treating our parents with breakfast in bed! We hope the Elves remember all of these things over the holidays!

In Science, we made salt dough with just three ingredients; salt, flour and water. We made a simple Christmas decoration for our tree.

On Tuesday, we enjoyed doubling and using our knowledge of doubles to create a beautiful Christmas tree.

We loved joining Jamie for one last time this year in Cosmic Kids Yoga Christmas special. We stretched with all our might until we finally relaxed in our pretend beds on Christmas Day. Bliss!

We have enjoyed reading to Mrs Sparkes over the last half-term. When we she left we said a big thank you and gave her some chocolate to enjoy during a quiet moment at home! She then sent us an amazing thank you e-mail where she had turned into an elf. We loved it!

In Art, we used primary colours to paint different shades of green. We used the green paint to make simple Nordic trees. We also made a background for our Christmas cards using snowflake finger prints.

We sang clearly and loudly in a quick Hymn practise with Mr Sayers, before ending the day reading our own Christmas story – Pip and Posy on the Snowy Day. Clever reading girls.

Wednesday was Festive Puzzling Wednesday! We enjoyed making puzzles with our friends.

We joined Reception and Form II in the hall for Headteacher’s Commendation assembly. We were so proud of our friends receiving certificates for hard work and Gymnastics. We also won the Smartest Form Cup. What a surprise!

We ended the assembly with a fun dance to Santa Claus is Coming to Town with our teachers and Mr Sayers!

On Thursday we started the day by impressing Mrs Weir and Mrs Matthews with our mental maths subtraction! We have improved the speed and accuracy of subtracting in sums and also our number formation has improved!

After this the girls finished off our re-write of the Christmas story! The girls have done an amazing job and have produced some excellent ‘books’.

After lunch we embarked upon some Christmas activities.  The girls made Robin wind chimes, decorated baubles and made some Christmas jewellery!

There were more Christmas jumpers on Friday and more excited Form 1 girls!  We started the morning with some maths work on the Ipads with the girls practising bonds to 10 and beyond and also doubles to 10.  After this we had an amazing moment where the girls used the lines in their spelling books to complete their spelling test rather than a larger sheet of paper that we had previously been sticking in!  This showed Mrs Weir that the girls are able to write much more neatly and follow instructions much better than they were able to at the beginning of this term! Great progress girls!!  We then learned about the new sound ‘ew’ for the spellings that need to be learned over the Christmas break.  These will be tested on the first Friday back in January.

During the afternoon the girls were excited to see Mrs Lipman for Music and Miss O’Hare for Drama.  Mrs Weir then challenged the girls to a Christmas Quiz and everyone enjoyed some Focussed Play time.

Mrs Bishop and Mrs Matthews will see the girls next week for more Christmas fun and Nativity rehearsals, but as I won’t be at school next week I would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year and i look forward very much to hearing all the news from the holidays when we return in January!  Mrs Weir x
