We were so delighted to be able to welcome the Nursery boys and girls back to the classroom this morning! Everyone had happy smiling faces and lots of news to share with us. We introduced the girls and boys to the new topic for the week – Under the Sea. The children thoroughly enjoyed playing in the tough tray ‘beach’, listening for the sound of the sea in the shells and investigating the shapes and feel of the shells and starfish. Some of the children were able to create their own seaside based Tap a Shape pictures and wrote labels for them with their phonic knowledge. The children also enjoyed watching a clip of creatures from under the sea on the Smartboard and we had a super discussion about the creatures they knew about and learnt about some new ones too!
After an action packed Outdoor ChIL of digging, planting, cycling and throwing and catching, the girls and boys had a delicious snack practising their manners when asking for their milk, fruit and biscuits. Their manners are really becoming very good now! We sang Happy Birthday to Tommy and he moved his picture up to the ‘4’ cake on the door. We then had a run through of all of the songs that we will be singing in the Junior Production and finished off the morning with a free flow ChIL utilising all the areas of the EYFS curriculum.
During Busy Fingers on Wednesday there were indeed some ‘busy fingers’! The girls and boys are becoming more independent using the fine motor skills activities and are able to spend more time on a focused task.
On Wednesday morning there was a buzz of excitement in the Nursery as some of the boys and girls were going to be using the school swimming pool and having a swimming lesson with our instructor Jack. The swimmers had a fantastic time and the non swimmers enjoyed fun packed Physical Development session with Mrs Weir and Mrs Houten involving exercises to music and rhymes.
Thursday morning had arrived and we were looking forward to our Music lesson where we were going to practise all our show songs. We have been working hard with our teachers and know that Mrs Lipman will be impressed when she hears us!
Lots of us worked on our core reading books to day with our teachers. We are trying so hard to retell the story, make predictions, talk about the characters and spot rhyme, alliteration and some phonic sounds and cvc words. Great work Nursery!
Everybody made an octopus for our under the sea display! We were careful to make sure that each octopus had 8 legs which we cut out using our strong hands. The classroom really is looking amazing with all our animal topic work on display!
Friday had arrived and after a great Busy Fingers playing board games with Mrs Holdstock, making incredibly tall towers with cubes and tubes and using some lovely Maths language, plus reading loads of fabulous fish stories, we went off on our Welly Walk. We found lots of different sea creatures hiding around the school and we looked at a non-fiction book to find out facts about them. We then used our bodies to move like each creature we had found. After that we snuggled down together to share the story ‘Clickety Crab’ and explored the sequence of the story.
Next week is a very exciting week as we are learning about ‘Zoo Animals’ and having our first school outing to the zoo. How grown up and what great fun!
Have super fun weekends.x
