23rd April 21
It was so lovely to welcome everyone back today and to welcome our new friends Chloe and Arlo.
This term we are learning about ‘Animals’ and today we learnt about the animals that live in the ‘Rainforest’. We looked at an information book to learn the names of different animals and which part of the Rainforest they live in. Some lived on the floor and some in the tree canopy.
It was such a lovely sunny day that we enjoyed two great ChIL sessions outside, playing with water, to learn about capacity, and using our new football goal to increase our gross motor skills.
We were so busy this morning working on our fine motor skills. Lots of us coloured pictures of rainforest animals and added labels. We tried to remember to always hold our pencils with a ‘frog on a log’grip. We enjoyed sharing stories with our teachers in our cosy book corner. Many of us enjoyed threading keys onto numbered key rings and tried so hard to match the correct quantity to the number.
In French we sang and danced to a lovely song about a marionette. We worked hard to learn new words and follow the actions. It was great fun!
We took some time today to learn about our rainforest role play area. We are going to go exploring, looking for animals and insects. We have camping equipment, binoculars, food, books to tell us about the plants and animals in the forest. We are going to have great fun!
On Thursday we had fun cutting out leaves for our Rainforest. Our scissor skills are really improving and our Rainforest looks fabulous. We also enjoyed lots of stories with Mrs Radgman and looked at books independently too.
After Busy Fingers we got ready for our Welly Walk to the Rainforest. We were explorers looking for all the different animals that live in the Rainforest. We found tree frogs, armadillos, a westen tarsier and a tree boa. We used a non-fiction book to find out information about what the animals ate, how they moved and their characteristics. We then pretended to be each animal. Eventually we found a huge gorilla and banged our chests and romped around the field. We then settled down in the outdoor classroom to a story all about a gorilla. Please see Tapestry for photos and videos.
On Friday morning we welcomed back our classroom helper Mrs Holdstock, hooray! We were all waiting to play a counting game with her. It was great fun. We also made lots of Rainforest puppets using our fine motor skills to cut out the animals and stick them onto sticks using selotape from the dispenser. Romy spent time making a symmetrical pattern with construction and some children had a great game with bricks and the crane, playing so well together.
We took time today to move everybody who had a birthday up to the number 4 door and sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to Shona, Lara and Bethany!
We shared more Easter holiday news looking at the photos on the board. The children spoke so well about their adventures and listened to each other well.
We finished our whirl wind morning with a Music lesson with Mrs Price and learnt our first ‘Croak’ song.
Enjoy your weekends in the sunshine and next week we are learning about caterpillars and butterflies.
