12th February 21
Gosh, more snow and a chilly start to our Monday morning.
However, when we were exploring our new ‘Transport’ topic, walking, scooting and biking, we took ourselves off to a warm continent with the story ‘Handa’s Surprise’. We acted out the story exploring the characters in it, the sequence of the story and explored one less each time an animal took a piece of fruit. We really enjoyed this story and we felt quite warm!
Then we went outside into the freezing weather. We explored the ice and snow and we have left an experiment to see what will happen to water that we’ve poured into playdough cutters, when it is left out all night!
Tuesday was Jolly Phonics day and we learnt our new sound ‘r’ and practised all our other sounds. We then worked in two groups, some of us playing Phoneme Pop on the smart board and some of us sharing a story and working on our listening, speaking and understanding skills.
We had more fun in the snow and checked on our experiment. Our water had frozen and we had lots of ice shapes. We broke them free and hung them on the trees and fence.
After snack we had a great Music lesson with Mrs Lipman playing a copying game. We ended our morning session with some ChIL working on our ‘Next Steps’ and then Mrs Houten read us the lovely story ‘Mrs Armitages on Wheels’.
We were so excited on Wednesday as we had all brought our bikes and scooters into school for some fun and exercise thinking about our transport topic. Before we got ready for this we had great fun in Busy Fingers washing and drying vehicles, painting welly boots and printing with them, using Purple Mash on the smart board and completing lots of jigsaws. We even managed to fit in our French lesson with Madame Knight, where we learnt lots of French names for animals and then learnt a fun song.
Hooray it’s party day. We had such fun at our party today! We danced, sang, played games, had a party snack, played in the snow, sang to our friend Amelie and Mr Nick, who both had birthdays and generally had a fantastic time.
We were so excited on Friday for our special mini beast day. We watched Miss Sewell’s video where she told us so much information about how to hunt for mini beasts. We then wrapped up warm and went hunting around the school. We found so many mini beasts and had great fun recording our finds on paper and using magnifying glasses to spot them. After a while we got really chilly so we went in for a yummy snack and then set to work making our bug houses. What a terrific day!
Have great half-terms and stay safe!
