Ho, Ho, Ho! Christmas has arrived in Reception!
On Monday, we had a very Christmassey Busy Fingers. We enjoyed using the dabbers to make Christmas pictures. We used old Christmas cards to make our own Christmas collage and used Tap a Shape to make Christmas pictures.
In Literacy, we loved acting out the story of the First Christmas. We read the story and took turns to act as the different characters in the story. What an amazing story!
In our Topic Time, we enjoyed painting our hands green and making handprints to turn into holly wreaths.
Tuesday was such a fun day. We were able to wear Christmas outfits all day. We loved making moving Father Christmases using split pins.
In our Topic Time, we enjoyed listening to ‘Sh, Santa’. We took time to draw our own Santas. We made salt dough and turned them into Christmas decorations.
We loved visiting FOSH’s Sweets and Treats stall, buying goodies for ourselves and our families.
On Wednesday, we spent time writing our Christmas cards using our sounds and digraphs. We can’t wait to take them home.
In our Topic Time, we cut out 2D flat shapes to make Christmas angels.
On Thursday we did some phonic revision. We played a fun Kim’s Game where we had to remember all of the items on a tray. Then Mrs Kendall took one of the items away while we had our eyes closed. We had to work out what was missing and then write it down on our whiteboards using our phonic knowledge.
We then learnt all about Advent and how people mark the countdown to Christmas. We discovered that some people make Christingles out of oranges, which is what we then did! We loved putting sweets and raisins and cocktail sticks and adding a candle and ribbon to our orange. We now know that the orange represents the world and the candle is the God, the Light of the World.
In the afternoon we made some wrapping paper and a matching gift tag, using our fingers to paint with. It will be a surprise for you all to see when we bring our Christmas creations home next week!
On Friday we had a big rehearsal for our Nativity. We sang our hearts out and cannot wait to perform next week, in our costumes.
After playtime, we had some Christmassy maths revision using baubles to make number sentences.
After lunch we had our usual Special Person Circle Time and ChIL, ending the week with some mindfulness.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone, see you on Monday for more festive fun!
