Reception Weekly News 11th September

11th September 20

Welcome to our first full week in Reception! Even though we have only been in Reception a few days, displays are popping up all over the walls! Look at some of us with our kites.

On Monday, we all came into school so well and started work on lots of different Busy Finger activities, including making flowers using the interlinking circles. We also used our strong fingers to put elastics over corks and painted our first beautiful paintings.

In Mathematics, we enjoyed re-telling ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ and going on a teddy bear hunt in the Outdoor Classroom. We used our super counting skills to count the bears and work out how many more we needed to find. We then decided to hide the bears for our teachers to find!

On Tuesday, we loved using our cutting skills to make puzzles of ourselves.

We enjoyed taking part in our first yoga session which was ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ themed! We all tried so hard to join in with all the movements.

In Phonics, we revised the first sound ‘s’. We played with slippery spaghetti, used watercolours to paint a snake and worked hard writing in our Jolly Phonics work books.

In Mathematics, we went on a hunt to find some of Hairy Mclary’s friends in the Outdoor Classroom. We matched the number on each dog’s collar to the correct amount of bones.

We enjoyed lots of lovely sunny ChIL in the Outdoor Classroom at the end of the day, digging up radishes which we had grown in Nursery and playing with our friends in the outdoor home corner.

On Wednesday, in Literacy we revised the phoneme ‘a’. We drew lots of ants of arms and took time to draw still life apples. We blended the two sounds together to read the word ‘as’.

On Thursday we had great fun learning the sound ‘t’.  We painted toothbrushes and toothpaste pictures using poster paint and toothbrushes!

In the afternoon we learned about our bodies and made some skeletons out of art straws.

On Friday we learnt the Jolly Phonic sound ‘i’ and enjoyed printing igloos using paint and Unifix cubes.  We also put lots of money ‘in’ a variety of money boxes whilst practising the sound.

In Maths we practised counting and ordered number to 10 with an Autumn theme!

In the afternoon we had our first Special Person Day session and we thought up some really lovely reasons as to why we are all special.  We had a calming Mindfulness session to end the day.  It has been a wonderful first full week in Reception, have a lovely rest over the weekend and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday.
