Reading Time at St Hilda's Nursery

Welcome to the Nursery Weekly News after our first fun-packed week in school.

We have had great fun playing in ‘Busy Fingers’ making our fingers strong and have enjoyed lots of indoor and outdoor ChIL (Child Initiated Learning), exploring our new environment. We have also spent time learning the Nursery routines and understanding how to behave in school. When we are really good and achieve something amazing we will be awarded a ‘Star of the Day’ certificate’.

We shared lost of stories by one of our favourite authors Julia Donaldson and created some lovely artwork based on these stories.

When we arrived at Nursery on Tuesday morning we were able to show off how grown up we are by using the registration board and letting our teachers know that we were at school!

After reading a story about a monkey and a butterfly we made our own butterflies during ChIL using our fingers to paint the pattern on and then squashed the two sides of the paper together to make some stunning paintings for our classroom display.

We had a lovely Busy Fingers session on Wednesday morning helping to make our fingers and hands strong.  Our teachers are very pleased with how we are engaging with each other and forming friendships.

We decided on our classroom rules all together on Wednesday and we created a fantastic list!

  1. We share.
  2. Quiet voices in the classroom.
  3.  No running in the classroom.
  4. Be nice and kind to our friends and teachers.
  5. Have lovely manners.  Remember to use ‘please’, ‘thank you’ and ‘excuse me’.

On Thursday morning we had our very first Music lesson of the year with Mrs Lipman.  We walked to the hall in a lovely line, listening to the instructions we were given and then sang lots of songs and learned some new actions to accompany them.  All of the teachers were very proud of us!

On Friday we had our first Welly Walk of the year!  We were all very excited to find out that Peter Rabbit and Lily Rabbit had hidden a surprise and some clues for us around the school grounds and that it was our job to find the clues and work out what they had hidden.   We worked together and found some very funny items! We were then able to listen to a lovely story of The Fox’s Socks on the tree stumps in the outdoor classroom.

We are very proud of how all of the children have settled in during their first week back  in Nursery and we look forward to seeing them all on Monday morning!

Have a lovely weekend!
