7th February 20
On Monday morning we had a special job to do! We had been invited to the whole school assembly! How grown up! We listened to the assembly about Well being Week. We showed the rest of the school that we were excellent at sitting and listening (CL) throughout the assembly!
After Outside ChIL which involved welly boots and bubbly puddles and lots of climbing and balancing (UW,PD), we had a visitor in the Nursery classroom. We went on a magical journey around the world and learnt about special languages and objects associated with the different countries of the world (EAD, UW).
We then found some fantastic Next Steps certificates that needed to be presented!! Well done girls (PSE)!
The day of our trip to the library finally arrived! There was huge excitement during Busy Fingers, with chatting about the walk and all the books we might see and possibly get to read!
We walked down to Harpenden town beautifully, making sure we were holding our partners hand, listening to our teachers and crossing the roads carefully (PSE). In the library we were so lucky to hear several stories from the librarian and choose some books (Literacy, CL). We also had some snack and a drink in the library before heading back to school. What a super trip we had! Out teachers are very proud of how we behaved!
On Wednesday Mrs Houten played a rhyming game with some of the children. The girls and boys were able to create some super rhyming words (Literacy). We also enjoyed water play, peg boards, chain links and practising writing letters and hearing sounds in words.
Following a busy couple of days at the start of the week we took some time to listen to our Traditional Tale, ‘The Big Pancake’. We talked about our favourite toppings and the shape of pancakes (M). After that we drew our own pancakes in a huge circle and painted them ready for display (EAD).
On Thursday morning we used the Ipads again to practise learning our letter sounds and to write them with the correct formation (UW, CL, Literacy). We also showed how patient we have become by completing an activity during Busy Fingers! Excellent progress!
Next we learnt about our new letter sound ‘h’. We watched the Jolly Phonics story and had great fun singing the song and learning the actions (PD, M, Literacy). We then played a tricky sorting game with a bag of objects that we had to sort into groups according to their initial sound. Our Teachers were so impressed with how we played this game!
After a lovely Free-flow ChIL we had a snack and then joined the girls from the Junior School to have a practice of our production ‘Stella the Starfish’ so we are all ready for next week!
Friday morning was our dress rehearsal. We all looked superb in our little fish outfits. Our singing and dancing was fantastic and we all enjoyed watching the older children perform too. We can’t wait for you to come and see us next week!
Have a lovely weekend! Our Traditional Tale next week will be The Three Billy Goats Gruff.
