Reception Weekly News 6th December

6th December 19

We started the week by opening a present from one of our friends! It was a Christmas story called ‘Mr Willowby’s Christmas Tree’. Our teachers hadn’t read it before and couldn’t wait to read it to us at the end of the day. Thank you for such a lovely early class Christmas present!

We then discovered a cheeky Christmas Elf was hiding in our classroom. We found him ‘inside’ our Christmas tree. We are going to enjoy using mathematical positional words to describe where he is hiding every day!

We enjoyed watching a mischievous monkey, Curious George, counting down the days to Christmas using his advent calendar, just as we are at the end of each day! We enjoyed watching a little bit of the story before settling down to some serious Christmas card writing!

In Literacy, we made our own Christmas cards using old cards as inspiration, started decorating our own trees and worked on the Maths Challenge, matching pattered presents to their labels.

In ChIL, we enjoyed adding sequins to our wooden stars. We also added snow glitter to our salt dough decorations. In the Outdoor Classroom, we loved mixing water to porridge oats to make bird feeders for the winter birds as it’s starting to get cold outside.

On Tuesday, we started the morning with a very busy Busy Fingers, making a split pin reindeer. We enjoyed singing along to ‘Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer!’ at the same time!

We spotted our cheeky Elf who was ‘on top’ of the clock this morning and made lots more paper chains; enough for Miss Smith to put up on the ceiling with lots of laughs as she stretched up to reach it and nearly fell off the chair!

In our Yoga session, we enjoyed a Christmas stretch with our friends to Cosmic Kids.

In ChIL, we loved looking at old fashioned pomanders on the Smartboard. We then made our own by putting cloves into oranges using our strong fingers. There was such a lovely Christmasy scent in the room afterwards!

We painted our divas and glittered them ready for Christmas.

On Wednesday, we spotted Elf ‘inside’ one of our stockings!

In Literacy, we learnt a new digraph ‘qu’. We tried hard to write lots of simple words using our phonic knowledge on the Smartboard.

In ChIL, we made Christmas pictures using dabbers and fir cone decorations for our families, as well as playing a Gingerbread Man counting game on the Smartboard.

On Thursday, we found the cheeky Christmas Elf hiding ‘between’ the door hangings!

We enjoyed a visit to the Secret Gift Room.  But we can’t say any more…..sssshhhh!

Mrs Delves arrived in the classroom with a special delivery! We discovered that Father Christmas had replied to our letters we posted last week, we were all so excited!

After playtime we learnt the digraph ‘ou’.  Some of us made lovely cloud pictures with cotton wool and put Father Christmas flying through the air amongst the clouds!  We also decorated faces with tissue paper mouths.

In the afternoon, we had PE and did some rehearsing for our Church Service next week.

On Friday, we learnt the digraph ‘oi’.  We did some fabulous coin rubbings and made some beautiful foil Christmas decorations.

After playtime we decorated our Christmas cakes.  We had fun rolling and cutting out the icing and putting pretty decorations on the top.

After lunch we had a visit from Form II who came to share some stories they had written about princesses.  We then had some Christmassy mindfulness and colouring.  Have a fun and festive weekend and see you on Monday for the last few days of term!
