We started our final week of half-term, ‘Numbers’ week, with some counting songs. We all learnt to hold our fingers up to represent the numbers while we were singing the number songs – this was quite tricky when you had to fold your fingers in! We are trying really hard to recognise the numerals and to get used to counting ‘one less’. (Maths).
Today we worked on our independence skills and some of us managed to thread and tie our own aprons. We were each awarded a marble and now we can have our Marble Jar Treat on Friday, Hooray!!
On Tuesday morning we had a fantastic Outdoor Learning session. Peter rabbit had seen some strange clues around St Hilda’s, so off we went to hunt them down. We found some oranges, pears, an apple, a cocoon and an ice cream. We suddenly realised that these were clues to ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. We rushed to the log circle and found the book. Mrs Radgman read the story and we took it in turns to find the correct amounts of food, matched them to the number and then chanted the repeating refrain ‘and he was still hungry’, (Maths, UW and Literacy). At the end of the story we flew like butterflies around the field.
On Wednesday morning we were so industrious in ‘Busy Fingers’ playing dominoes with Mrs Snelling, (PSE and Maths), drawing and cutting, (PD and Literacy) and filling pots with marbles and counting them, (PD and Maths).
In our adult-led activity we explored our ‘Numbers’ topic. Mrs Radgman wrote different numbers on the Smart board and we put up our hands if we recognised the number. Mrs Radgman was very impressed with our knowledge. We then chose an action to do to match the number. We did 3 star jumps, 4 hops, we stood still when we saw zero and we did 10 spins and got very dizzy, (Maths and PD).
On Thursday morning we were so lucky to have some visitors in the classroom! We were able to show our Mummies some of the fun activities we do in Busy Fingers and how clever we are choosing activities independently and sharing the Nursery toys with our friends.
After this the excitement didn’t stop! We were lucky enough to meet up with Leo le Chat again in French with Madame Bishop. We learnt how to say some words associated with Autumn and sang some songs in French too!
Hip, Hip Hooray, it’s party day! We arrived at school in our beautiful dresses and costumes. We looked so glamorous. We had a great time dancing to music before playing party games. We played musical statues, pass the parcel, musical bumps and musical chairs. We all played so nicely, remembering the rules and being happy for friends when they won a game. We then had a lovely yummy party snack with cocktail sausages, cheesy shapes, cheese, cucumber, tomatoes and chocolate fingers! We then watched a little bit of Peppa Pig before going for a really fun Music lesson.
We have had a fabulous half-term at Nursery with lots of fun and learning. Have super duper holidays and we look forward to seeing you back with us in November.
