We have enjoyed our penultimate week in Reception by performing in our Summer Show!
We loved dressing up in our woodland animals costumes (thanks to our parents!) and having our faces painted. We sang our song really well and loved watching the older girls acting out the modern version of Snow White!
In the afternoon, we enjoyed talking about another ‘Amazing Author’ Judith Kerr. We went on to paint and collage our own Mog pictures.
We have also been busy making cards for our friends. Some of us have even made cards for our teachers, thanking them for teaching us! How thoughtful!
On Tuesday, we loved sharing our Summer Show with our Parents and Grandparents. We hope you enjoyed it too.
In the afternoon, we enjoyed listening to ‘Mog the Forgetful Cat’ in the garden. We made our own salt dough and created some beautiful medals like the one that Mog received for bravery at the end of the story.
We also worked hard on our Mog paintings. We finished the day watching the short advert featuring Mog and a fun Mog chasing mice rhyme!
On Wednesday, we enjoyed our last performance of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfettes’.
In the afternoon, we whipped up another batch of salt dough and made more medals, adding super details to them. We loved painting our cooked salt dough medals with Mrs Houten, using gold, silver and bronze paint.
We decided we needed a huge laugh as we were all tired, so we ended the day with three fun helicopter stories. Alexa, Annie and Annabel told us their stories and we acted them out altogether. We laughed so much that we forgot all of our cares and worries!
Thursday was our treat day! We worked so hard to fill our jar with mini beasts over this half term, that we had a special treat of wearing our party clothes to school.
We welcomed our Mummy’s and Daddy’s into the classroom for a Stay and Play session. We had a lovely time showing our parents around the classroom and completing some tasks such as decorating a starfish using sand, glitter and lentils and creating some pictures using 2d shapes. After sharing some stories together, we said goodbye and got on with our Literacy lesson.
We carried on learning about our author of the week, Judith Kerr. We read a very famous book written by her, ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’. We really enjoyed the listening and discovered the story was even older then Mrs Kendall and Miss Smith! We then used mini whiteboards and pens to write some sentences from the story, using dictation. We tried really hard, especially to write the tricky words. We then wrote lists of all of the food and drink that the tiger consumed. We then designed our own front cover for a new version of the story. These included, ‘The Peacock Who Came to Tea’ and ‘The Monkey who Came to Tea’! What funny stories they would make!
After playtime, we had a snack and listened to another Judith Kerr story, ‘Mog and the Granny’. We then played Kim’s Game, where we had a tray of items to remember. We were so good at this and between us, remembered everything and we could even work out what Mrs Kendall took away each time!
In the afternoon, we carried on designing and making our wedding dresses using lots of craft materials such as strings of pearls, feathers and metallic paint. They look amazing! We then had a lovely outside ChIL as it was such a sunny day.
On Friday, we had assembly and then during Literacy we read the story ‘The Old Toy Room’ before writing about our own toys we had brought in for Toy Day.
In Maths, we practised our number formation by reciting some fun rhymes and then played some Orchard Toys maths games. We have become so good at taking turns and sharing, our teachers were very impressed!
We had a lovely swim after lunch and ended the week with Mindfulness.
Have a lovely weekend everyone and see you on Monday for our last week in Reception!
