28th June 19
Monday morning meant one thing for us; Handwriting Competition! We worked quietly writing a few lines of ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’ using the correct letter formation in the hope that we would win a prize for neatest writing or most improved. Watch this space!
In Mathematics, we revisited o’clock and half-past times. We loved playing ‘What’s the Time, Mr Wolf?’ using a large teaching clock and also the Four Corner Game where we had to run to different o’clock times. We then went back into the classroom and used our own clocks to make o’clock to ‘Mr Wolf’s Nursery Rhyme Time’ and played half-past bingo.
In the afternoon, we discovered that we had a huge crop of ripe strawberries and picked them carefully with our friends.
In Expressive Arts and Design, we enjoyed making our butterflies in the style of Eric Carle. We loved using collage, painted paper and plain paper to make the most beautiful butterflies you have ever seen.
On Tuesday, we loved welcoming a new friend into Reception and can’t wait for her to join us again in Form I.
In Literacy, we enjoyed listening to ‘Dogger’ and finding out about Dave’s favourite toy, Dogger. We quickly realised that this is the reason we are having a Cake and Cuddly Toy Sale on Wednesday. We went onto making our own posters telling our parents about the sale. We also made our own story planners, recalling the story setting, main characters and events.
In Mathematics, we enjoyed acting out 5 Currant Buns, paying with real £1 coins as we will at our Cake Sale. We then worked out number problems with cakes and £1 coins, including sharing, doubling and halving.
Snack time in the afternoon was amazing; we enjoyed eating a small crop of fresh strawberries! Delicious!
On Wednesday morning, we enjoyed our last swimming lesson at Rothamsted Swimming Pool. We had time to play on the inflatables with our friends.
In the afternoon, we loved listening to lots of stories ‘Hairy Maclary’ stories by Lynley Dodd. We took time to paint lots of the dogs and cats from the stories.
At 3pm, we met out Mums, Dads, Grandmas and Nannies and visited our ‘Dogger’ inspired Cake and Cuddly Toy Sale. We took out £1 coins and chose our own cuddly toy and delicious cakes made by the girls.
On Thursday we spent some time in the hall rehearsing for our Junior Production that we will be performing to an audience next week. We sung our hearts out and we are getting so good at knowing when to go on and off the stage.
In the afternoon, we read a Shirley Hughes story called, ‘Here Comes the Bridesmaid’. We chatted about any weddings we had been to and thought about what people wear and eat at weddings. We then started to design and decorate our own wedding dresses! Mrs Kendall even brought in her wedding dress for us to see and get some ideas from!
At 2pm, we went onto the field for a Sports Day practice.
On Friday morning we had a dress rehearsal for our Production. We all loved getting into our costumes! We looked so funny dressed as animals!
In the afternoon we had swimming in our outdoor pool. It was such a lovely day, perfect for a dip!
We then had a snack and some mindfulness. What a busy week! We are all looking forward to next week when we perform our show to our parents!
Enjoy the weekend, see you on Saturday for Sports Day!
