Nursery Weekly News 15th February 2019

15th February 19

We can’t quite believe that this is the final week of the half-term. We have really enjoyed our ‘Favourite Authors’ topic work and we know that we will really enjoy sharing Nick Butterworth’s books this week.

We began our morning with some very exciting exploration activities. We explored a big tray full of ice and used some fantastic vocabulary whilst playing with it; cold, melting, slippery, slidey, sticky and many more, (UW and CL).

We played a great Phonics Fishing Game with Mrs Holdstock matching letters to the initial sounds of pictures, (PSE and Literacy).

In our adult-led activity we listened to the story ‘One Snowy Night’ by Nick Butterworth. We did some amazing recall and sequencing of the story, (Literacy). We then chose a character from the story to draw and paint.

We had a great outdoor ChIL in the winter sunshine, working hard on our physical skills using stilts and hoppers, (PD).

On Tuesday we had an exciting ‘Busy Fingers’ using scissors to cut jelly and cress. We are working really hard on our ‘Scissor Skills’ challenge, (PD).

In our Jolly Phonics session today we learnt our new sound ‘d’. We spotted loads of items in the story that began with ‘d’ and we pointed them out to Mrs Radgman, who then wrote them on a list for us. Some of us used Sound Talk to sound ‘dog’ and ‘Dan’ for Mrs Radgman. We also read the story ‘Oi Goat’ by Kes Gray and spotted all the rhyming words and added to them making rhyming strings.

We had a great outdoor ChIL using skipping ropes to thread in and out the fence, (PD).

After snack Mrs Radgman thought that it would be a good idea for us to improve our independence skills still further and we each washed up, rinsed and dried our own plates and cups, (PD and PSE).

We then climbed the stairs to the Library with our cuddly toys and had Peter Rabbit’s news and two stories from Mrs Balcombe, (Literacy).

On Wednesday morning we were very busy making cards for our families using our emergent writing skills to write names and messages in them, (PD and Literacy).

In our adult-led activity we read the story ‘Jasper’s Beanstalk’ by Nick Butterworth. We talked about what Jasper needed to make his bean grow and also sequenced the days of the week, (UW and Maths). We then planted our very own bean and wrote our names and  ‘bean’ on a label using our emergent phonic knowledge, (PD and Literacy). We are going to take them home and see whose bean grows the tallest, (Maths).

We had a super Music lesson with Mrs Harte enjoying lots of our favourite rhymes.

In the afternoon with Mrs Radgman we read the story ‘My Grandpa is Amazing’ by Nick Butterworth and we talked about our Grandpas and the lovely times that we have with them, (PSE and CL).

On Thursday it was a special morning when our Mummies and Daddies joined us for a ‘Celebration of Work’, (PSE). Our parents took time to have a look at our amazing work and stopped for a play too. They were so proud of the progress we have made since starting in Nursery.

We then had a French lesson with Mrs Bishop. We read ‘Jasper’s Beanstalk’ and Mrs Bishop taught us the days of the week in French. We then sang our days of the week song in French too,(CL, UW, Maths and Literacy). We finished our lesson playing ‘Days of the Week Runaround’ outside. When Mrs Bishop called out a day of the week in French we had to go to the right corner of the tennis court and say the day.

In the afternoon with Mrs Radgman we made Valentine’s biscuits to take home and give to our families who we love very much, (PD and PSE).

Hooray! Our ‘Marble Jar’ party was here at last. We had a quick ‘Busy Fingers’  and then rushed off to Reception’s wonderful assembly all about nursery tales and problem solving. We are sure that we’ll be brave enough to do our very own assembly soon.

We then played lots of party games and were so good at following the rules. We had loads of fun.

We had a yummy party snack and then had lots more party fun in the outside classroom.

We have had a great half-term together, with lots of amazing learning and lots of fun along the way. Enjoy your holidays and we’ll see you soon.
