We have enjoyed an amazing Easter week in Reception.
We started the week with a ‘Spotting signs of spring’ EYFS assembly. We enjoyed listening to ‘A year with Kipper’, following the months of the year and then we went on to talk about spring. We looked at lots of different photographs showing signs of spring, including daffodils, lambs, bees, blossom and catkins. We promised we would look out for signs of spring when we go for a walk during the holidays.
We were so excited to find the first spring ladybird in ChIL in the afternoon! We carefully put it in the Bug Hotel and will be keeping a close eye on it.
We were very excited to make Easter nests. We weighed out ingredients using our new measuring skills. We melted the chocolate, butter and golden syrup on the hob. We then added the melted mixture to crunchy cornflakes. We made our own little nests. In Mathematics, we counted out 66 mini eggs and Evie had the brilliant idea to share them out, saying ‘One for you’ each time. We shared them out between us and realised we had three each. Yummy! We put them in our nests and couldn’t believe our eyes when we discovered a little chick inside the nests too!
On Tuesday, we designed our own Easter cards using collage materials. We wrote the insert of our own cards completely independently in Busy Fingers. We hope you like them!
We were so excited to find out that we were going on a little Easter egg hunt later on in the morning. We searched high and low for cardboard eggs on the field and then exchanged them for a tasty Easter treat.
Later on, we turned a handprint into a rabbit’s face and loved watching Peter Rabbit’s ‘Signs of Spring’ altogether!
On Wednesday, we loved walking into Reception to find a shape chick ready for us to cut and stick together, while listening to Mr Tumble singing ‘Chick, chick, chick, chick, chicken, lay a little egg for me!’ on the Smartboard.
We worked in two groups to bake delicious bunny biscuits. We creamed the butter and sugar together, beat the eggs and vanilla extract before adding it to the flour and baking powder. We made a lovely dough and cut out lovely bunnies with the biscuit cutters. We iced them once they were cooked and cooled and added a tiny marshmallow tail! They look amazing.
We enjoyed an Easter corner game, running around the playground trying to find the Easter objects.
On Wednesday afternoon, we loved joining the rest of the school in our House t-shirts. We enjoyed listening to lots of girls singing, playing the piano and a variety of instruments. We thought the house songs were amazing and loved every minute of it!
On Thursday, we all went to the hall to rehearse for our Easter Service on Friday. Afterwards, we had lots of fun watching the Form VI girls playing netball against the teachers. We were so surprised to see Mrs Bishop and Mrs Wallace playing and cheered them on!
Friday was the last day of term and we all walked beautifully to Harpenden Methodist Church for our Easter Service. Our teachers thought we sang beautifully and were very proud of how we sat so sensibly in church.
We hope you all have a lovely Easter holidays and look forward to seeing you for our last term in Reception!
