We began our first full week with a very industrious ‘Busy Fingers’. We used wooden shapes, hammers and nails to make ‘Tap-a-Shape’ pictures, (PD), we played a counting game with Mrs Holdstock, (Maths), we drew on large paper on the floor, (EAD and PD), played with our friends in the castle, (PSE) and used tools to make food with play dough, (PD).
In our adult-led activity we met the classroom puppets Sally and Sammy squirrel. We talked to them about how we should behave when we are in Nursery. We came up with some ‘Nursery Classroom Rules’, which included saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you’, sharing our toys, being kind and a few more, (PSE).
We then thought about what should happen if we find it difficult to follow the rules. Mrs Radgman and Mrs Weir showed us the ‘sun’ and ‘cloud’ hanging in our classroom. We are all hoping to stay on the sun all year, but if we forget the rules we might move onto the cloud just for a few moments, whilst we think about the right way to behave, (PSE).
We enjoyed lovely ChIL sessions indoor and outdoor, hunting for bugs, (UW), having trolley rides with our new friends, (PSE), sharing stories with our teachers, (Literacy), and lots more.
We took a few moments to think about our time in Nursery so far. We have really settled well and are making new friendships and learning new routines. We watched a video called ‘Topsy and Tim Start School’. Topsy and Tim felt just like us last week when we started, a little bit unsure (PSE). Soon they settled at school just like us.
We finished the session sharing one of Freya’s favourite books, ‘The Gruffalo’ by Julia Donaldson. Freya told us ‘I really like it. I really like the Gruffalo’.
On Tuesday morning we tried some really tricky activities to make our fingers strong for our emerging writing. We tried to stretch elastic bands onto corks. Some of us managed to get loads on, (PD).
In our adult-led activity today we each took turns to talk about the lovely family photos that our Mummies and Daddies sent in, (CL and PSE). We enjoyed finding out how many brothers and sisters we had, how old they were, where we lived and lots more.
At the end of the day we took our first trip to the school Library. We took our toys for a cuddle and listened to Thea’s favourite story, ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ by Julia Donaldson, (Literacy and CL). Thea told us ‘that the ladybird whispers to all the animals about what the ladybird heard’.
We finished a very busy morning sharing Tilly’s ‘Magic Moment’, (CL).
On Wednesday we worked on our fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. We used tweezers to pick up pom poms and put them into chocolate boxes, counting them when they were full, (PD and Maths). We also tried to complete lots of different jigsaw puzzles, (Maths and PD).
In our adult-led activity we took time to look at the photos of our houses. We talked about who lived in them and then looked at the shapes of the windows, doors, chimneys and roofs, (CL, Maths and PSE). Mrs Radgman drew a house on the Smart Board and we helped her by telling her what shapes she needed. We then all drew our own houses, looking carefully at the photos and counting the doors and windows. You are going to love our new classroom display.
In Music today we sang our ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’ song. We then sang some songs about our bodies and used soft and loud voices and fast and slow.
We had such fun on Thursday morning threading ‘Cheerios’ onto spaghetti and trying to count them, (PD and Maths).
We then did some more topic work for ‘All about Me’. We read a story about a family who have two children called Topsy and Tim. We realised that they had four members of their family. Some of us had more or less than them. We then decided to make a biscuit in the shape of a person and we told our teachers which member of our family it was. The biscuits look so yummy!
Willow shared her favourite story with us today, ‘The Snail and the Whale’, by Julia Donaldson. Willow told us that it was her favourite ‘because it’s got waves and I like the whale and the snail’, (Literacy and CL).
On Friday we came to school dressed in our red tracksuits ready for Outdoor Learning. Sally and Sammy squirrel had left a big parachute in the middle of the field. They told us that they were having trouble learning our names, so we played some games helping them to learn them. We then found our photos and name cards hidden on the field next to some buckets. Sally and Sammy asked us to go and find natural things to decorate our names. We found feathers, sticks, leaves, buds and lots more. Our name cards looked fabulous when we had finished. We ended our session with a story about Big Bear and then we acted out some of the story. We love Outdoor Learning!
We look forward to another fun week in Nursery next week. Enjoy your weekends.
